In February 2022, the world was shocked by the news that Russia had started an invasion war in Ukraine by launching an attack in the early hours from three main directions: North, South, and East. Intense fighting between the Russian and Ukrainian military forces spread fast across major cities in Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mariupol, and in the Donetsk and Luhanska oblasts.
The human suffering is enormous
Thousands of people have died. Millions left their homes to seek refuge in other countries. Civilian infrastructure has been affected by the Russian bombardments, which left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity and water. Thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed, and bombed bridges and roads have left communities cut off from essential support.
[...] the Russian invasion of Ukraine triggered the fastest-growing displacement crisis in the world.
The human suffering is enormous, and we must remember that Ukraine is not just fighting a battle for independence. Ukraine is fighting for all of us fortunate enough to live in democratic, liberal countries.
Putin’s war in Ukraine is a direct attack on democracy and liberal values
Our freedom depends on societies built on liberal values, and that’s why we have to protect democracy, the rule of law, and human rights, as they are fundamental to our ability to live free and good lives.
These values are now threatened by an aggressive and authoritarian Russian regime, which has decided to attack a free and democratic neighbor. By invading Ukraine, Putin violated international law and attacked human rights and the foundation on which we build our freedom.
We support refugees
The Stikado team and our volunteers are currently in Romania, closely following Ukraine's situation. We will do everything to help the refugees fleeing the war here in Romania and the neighboring countries. We will work to stop the authoritarian forces and for the liberal democracy to emerge victorious from this tragic war.
